A sneaker made from textile waste?
Yep, that is what we do at VAER, and now we offer you the chance to be a part of the upcycling fun. Therefore, we invite you to design and make your own upcycled sneaker from textile waste. We will be having the first workshops in February, so read more and sign up below!
How does it work?
You meet up at the location and time (see below) and we will help you with each of the following steps:
- Try the Phoenix to find your size.
- Choose your textiles and design your sneaker.
- Apply backing to the textiles (we will show you how)
- Cut your patterns
After these steps, you are done with the workshop. We will then send the patterns you have made to Portugal, where they will make them into your sneakers.
Dates and times:
Tuesday the 21st of February, 6pm - 8pm,
Sunday the 26th of February, 11am - 1pm
Kraftwerket, Valgårdsvej 2, 2500
850 DKK (save 250 DKK)
Includes the workshop + your self-made pair of sneakers
When do I get my sneakers?
We will send the patterns you have cut to Portugal, where they will make them into the final sneakers. This takes a while, and therefore we expect a production time of around 2 months. This means, that the sneakers are expected to be ready in May 2023.
Can I bring my own fabric?
It is up to you whether you want to use the textiles that we have or if you want to bring your own old textiles. Just remember - not all textiles are suitable for shoes, so choose strong materials, jeans are e.g. perfect for sneakers. If you are in doubt whether a textile is good enough, you can always bring it, and then we will see if it is suitable or not.
What if I am not sure about my size?
We will have shoes in all sizes at the place of the workshop - in this way you can try the shoes before you start making a pair in a specific size.
What shoes can I make?
You can make the Phoenix model (unfortunately not the GRO model). This means that you can choose materials (and e.g. details), but you have to stick with the design of the Phoenix (since this is what we have patterns for).
TEXTILE WASTE LIBRARY
Here are some of the textiles that we have available. It is up to you whether you want to use these or if you want to bring your own old textiles. Just remember - not all textiles are suitable for shoes, so choose strong materials, jeans are e.g. perfect for sneakers.
